Just Jesus

Writer's picture: Kenneth BonnerKenneth Bonner

We have all found ourselves in situations desperate for answers to our issues. Regardless of the situation, many search for solutions to ease the pain. The answer is, and always has been, Jesus. However, the world fills us with the notion that indulging in worldly pleasures is the solution to our problems, and that we should blame everyone else for the situations we are in. This mindset causes pride to creep in, leading us to reject the idea of accepting responsibility for our actions. We know from Scripture that pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall (Proverbs 16:18). Looking at the word 'haughty', Merriam-Webster defines it as: blatantly and disdainfully proud; having or showing an attitude of superiority and contempt for people or things perceived to be inferior. Having this mindset isolates us from the one who can heal us and save our souls. It creates a void that keeps us seeking things and people to fill the emptiness we feel. My friend, this is not the solution. When life beats you down, humble yourself before God, and he will lift you up (James 4:10). Humility is not weakness. Merriam-Webster describes humility as being free from pride or arrogance. The key to your breakthrough is Jesus. Everything you have ever done in life, every mistake, every wrong thought, or mistreatment of people has been covered by Jesus' sacrifice on the cross. What was accomplished on Calvary set the trajectory for you to be healed, delivered, changed, and free from guilt and shame. Your sins have been forgiven if you have repented and received Jesus as your Lord and Savior. It doesn't take 50 steps to a better life to be renewed. It takes one, and that is accepting the only way to God, which is through Jesus Christ. You don't need things to make you feel whole; these things won't heal you. But Jesus will. Seek him by talking to him and reading his word. Let him lead you into the life he designed for you. Nothing else will matter. Just Jesus!
